Concrete Patios Hamilton
A concrete patio is one of those jobs that looks simple on paper. Flat ground, a bit of formwork, pour it and done. In practice, the finish choice, the drainage fall, and how it ties into the rest of the section all matter and they are worth getting right the first time.
We lay concrete patios across Hamilton and the Waikato. Free quote and a straight answer on what works for your section.
The Right Finish for Your Section
The finish you choose affects how the patio looks, how it holds up and what it costs to maintain. Exposed aggregate looks better for longer and handles wet conditions well. Coloured concrete ties the patio into the house if the palette matters. Stamped concrete is the decorative end of the range and suits when you want the patio to be a feature, not just a functional slab. Give us a call and we can talk through what suits your specific situation.

From a small courtyard off the back of a Hamilton townhouse through to a large entertaining area on a Waikato lifestyle block, the job starts with a site visit. If you want a patio that improves the value of your home, give us a call.
Exposed Aggregate
The top layer of cement paste is washed back while the concrete is still wet, leaving the stone underneath exposed. Good grip, looks better for longer than a brushed finish, and holds up well outdoors without much upkeep beyond resealing every few years. River stone is standard in the Waikato. If you have an existing exposed aggregate driveway, we can match it across to the patio.
Coloured Concrete
Oxide pigment is mixed into the concrete before it is poured so the colour runs through the full depth of the slab. Not a surface coat. Earthy tones are most common in Hamilton: charcoal, sandstone and slate grey. Sealed after curing and resealed every three to five years to keep the colour consistent. If you are also getting a coloured concrete driveway, we can quote both together.
Stamped Concrete
Rubber mats pressed into fresh concrete create a pattern. Stone, slate, and cobblestone are the common profiles. A release powder in a contrasting colour gives a two-tone effect. The most decorative option and usually the most expensive. It suits patios where street appeal and finish quality are the priority.
Drainage and Falls
Every patio needs a slight fall away from the house to shift water off the surface. On flat sections this is built into the formwork before the pour. On sites with fixed levels nearby, we work out the fall before we start. Water pooling against the house or sitting on the surface after rain is the sign that this was not done right. We set it correctly from the beginning.
Working Around Your Project Timeline
If you have a landscaper, fencer, or deck builder already booked around the same job, we coordinate around their schedule. A delayed patio slab can hold up the whole project. We give you a clear start date, show up when we say we will, and get the concrete down so the next trade can move in without waiting.
Hamilton City Council Requirements
Ground level patio slabs generally do not require a building consent through Hamilton City Council. If you are adding a covered pergola or roof structure over the patio, that structure may need consent but that is a building matter separate from the concrete work. Properties outside the city boundary follow Waikato District Council requirements.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a concrete patio cost in Hamilton?
Cost depends on the size of the slab and the finish. Brushed is the most affordable. Exposed aggregate and coloured concrete sit in the middle. Stamped concrete is the most expensive. We give a free quote and we will give you a straight answer on cost for your job.
Do I need a consent for a concrete patio in Hamilton?
For a ground level slab, no building consent is required in most cases. If you are adding a covered structure over the patio, that may require consent through Hamilton City Council. The concrete work on its own does not trigger consent.
Can the patio connect to an existing path?
Yes, that is a standard part of the job. We cut the existing edge back cleanly and tie the new slab in. If you are also after concrete paths to link the patio to the front of the section, we can quote both at the same time.
Can you match an existing driveway or path finish?
In most cases yes. If your driveway is exposed aggregate, brushed, or coloured concrete, we can pour the patio to match. Exact colour matching on older coloured concrete is harder as pigments age, but we will be upfront about that before we start.
