Concrete Foundation Pouring Hamilton
Getting a foundation poured should be the straightforward part of a build. You have plans, you have consent, and you need concrete in the ground before the frame goes up.
That is not always how it goes.
We pour concrete foundations across Hamilton and the Waikato. We work from your engineer’s plans, show up when we say we will, and get the pour done so your build can move forward.
The Foundation Specialists That Works to Spec
Jobs vary. Some are straightforward residential slabs on flat sections. Others involve perimeter foundations, stiffened raft designs, or light commercial footings on more demanding sites. Give us a call or fill in the form. We can look at the plans and give you a straight answer on what is involved and when we can start.

Whether it is a straightforward shed foundation on a flat Hamilton section or a full perimeter foundation for a new home build, the job starts with the plans and a phone call. A site visit may be needed so we can quote accurately and leave you with no surprises. Of course we come out for free.
A concrete foundation is not something you see once the build is finished. You see it if it fails.
Most foundations poured to a good engineer’s spec will outlast the building above them. The ones that cause problems later come down to two things: poor ground preparation or a pour that did not meet the specification. A properly prepared and compacted base, correctly placed reinforcing steel, and concrete poured and finished to the engineer’s drawings is what every foundation needs. That is also what your building consent inspector is checking.
The quote covers the full scope. No surprises on the day.
If you are a developer looking for a contractor to pour multiple slabs, give us a call to consult on your needs, contractor timeframes and how we can help your development stay on track.
Residential Home Foundations
New home foundations in New Zealand must be designed to NZ Building Code and poured to an engineer’s specification. For most residential builds in Hamilton, this means a reinforced concrete slab on a prepared gravel base, with perimeter beams and internal ground beams where the design requires them. We work from the drawings supplied, coordinate with your builder for the pour date, and get the concrete in the ground ready for framing.
Light Commercial Foundations
Commercial sites have higher load requirements and often tighter compliance documentation requirements. We pour foundations for small commercial buildings, carpark pads, and yard slabs across Hamilton. If the job has an engineering specification, we work to it. If it does not, we can point you toward the next step before we quote.
Garage and Sleepout Foundations
A garage or sleepout foundation is typically simpler than a full home slab but still needs to be done right. A correctly levelled, reinforced slab means the structure above it goes up straight and stays that way. We quote these jobs the same way as any other foundation work: from the plans and with a clear date.
Working Around Your Project Timeline
If you have a framing crew, plumber, or other trades already booked after the foundation pour, we coordinate around their schedule. A delayed pour holds up the entire build. We give you a clear start date, show up when we say we will, and get the concrete down so the next trade can move in on time.
Hamilton City Council Requirements
New building foundations in Hamilton require a building consent through Hamilton City Council before work begins. Hamilton Concreters works from the engineer’s plans supplied by the buyer. Properties outside the city boundary follow Waikato District Council requirements.
Difficult Sites and Limited Access
Not every site is flat or easy to reach. Tight residential sections, sloped ground, and limited truck access are all workable. Mention it when you call and we will factor it into the quote.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a building consent for a concrete foundation in Hamilton?
Yes, for any new habitable building or structure that requires consent. Hamilton City Council issues building consents for properties within the city boundary. Waikato District Council covers rural and lifestyle block properties outside the city. The consent is the buyer’s responsibility. We pour to the engineer’s plans once consent is granted and the site is ready.
What is the difference between a slab-on-ground and a raft slab?
A slab-on-ground is a flat concrete floor poured on a prepared gravel base, usually used for garages and sheds. A raft slab is a reinforced concrete slab with integral perimeter and internal ground beams, designed to spread load and handle some ground movement. Most new home builds in Hamilton use a raft slab design specified by a structural engineer.
Does the quote include ground preparation and reinforcing steel?
The quote covers the full scope of the concrete work. That includes base preparation, formwork, reinforcing steel placement, the concrete pour, and finishing. If there is any earthworks or excavation required before we can start, we will note that separately in the quote.
How long after the pour before framing can start?
Concrete reaches adequate strength for framing to begin at around 7 days under normal conditions. Full structural strength is reached at 28 days. Your builder and the consent conditions will specify the minimum cure time before loading the slab. We can advise on timing when we discuss the job.
